Comparisons

I finally got around to scanning a bunch of my baby pictures, so I can at last do the official comparison pictures.  Enjoy!

Earth Week!

Y'all know I'm a rather crunchy mama (see later in this post), so obviously I'm going to say "hooray Earth Week!"  For those who share this viewpoint, check out the "Celebrate Earth Day All Week" blogging event.

I'm excited to see what the giveaways are!

Some ways that we try to live green:
-Cloth diapering and cloth wipes
-HE washing machine
-Composting and vegetable gardening, and using a rain barrel for our irrigation
-Upcycling clothes and other fabric to make baby clothes
-Recycling, of course
-Eating real food in its natural state (cuts out the whole processing, which uses a lot of energy)
-Bicycling/walking as preferred modes of transportation (when it's warmer than 10 degrees out)
-Bringing own bags to stores
-Trying to buy local as much as possible (cut down on transportation, support our local economy)

What do you do?

The importance of extended rear-facing

Please check out this post on The Baby Standard.  It is so important and I'm pretty sure I'm the only person in Ashland who understands that.  I did flip Everett's carseat around for about a week and then the mommy guilt got to be too much.  He didn't fight me any less about getting into the car and the weather dried up so there weren't any more muddy shoes, so I said screw it!  He's going back to rear-facing.  He didn't care one bit about the change and still fights me when I put him in the car, but sits content while we drive.  Everett's carseat has a 35 lb and 50" maximum for rear-facing, so that's what I am determined to do.

Lack of Bloggage

Obviously, I haven't felt like writing much lately.  Let's see here.  Since Easter....umm...well we worked, Everett played, I'm sure we ate food.  Yeah....interesting eh?  We did make a trip to the big city and I found a fabric store that actually has things other than plain quilting cotton prints.  I found PUL (for making diaper covers), sewing machine needles I needed, some nice knit ribbing, a cute apple knit print that I haven't determined a destiny for, a knitting stitch holder, thread, etc.  It was a gleeful time for me.  Speaking of which, Glee is back!  That and Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution are my favorite t.v. shows at the moment.  Speaking of which (again), we lowered our cable to basic this month.  We had had expanded digital home blah blah plus a year of HBO and cinemax.  We had a fantastic deal, but we decided (I decided) that it was time to finally get our own internet and being the stubborn, frugal people that we are, we would prefer to have our monthly bill go down rather than up.  So Brian called the company.  Three times.  And talked with three different representatives until we decided what to do and got any kind of extra charges waived.  So we now have some nice internet, our same phone plan, and 13 cable channels.  Really, our favorite shows (minus a few) are network shows.  Plus, we were watching too much t.v.  We would sit down every night after Ever went to bed and watch t.v. for a couple hours.  Blech.  My brain just felt like mush after that.  Plus, the weather is getting nicer and we should be spending more time outdoors.  So I lose my beautiful TLC, HGTV, and Food Network shows and Brian lost the Pacific miniseries and Entourage re-runs on Spike.  Don't worry about Everett though.  We stored up about 15 episodes of Yo Gabba Gabba on the TiVo set to NEVER DELETE!  (Another motivator to get rid of more channels...)
Everett now has four molars and whilst being silly, used them on me yesterday.  I think I kept myself from crying but I did have to put neosporin somewhere I never thought I'd have to....and stuff a tissue in my bra.
He's also really really trying to say words.  He can now say "mama" but won't really say it to me.  If you ask him where mama is, he smacks me, but when he says it, it's not directed at me.  sigh.  He is also now proficient at saying "bubbles," "kitty," "meow," "bark," "daddy" (and actually directed at Brian), and he's getting close on "milk" and "no."  He runs, he jumps, he dances, hugs and snuggles when he was too rough, and sings (while matching pitch! my amazing musical virtuoso!).
We all had a cold for about two weeks which lead directly into allergy season.  Joy of joys.  I don't think I've been able to breathe fully for a month now.  Let's see.  Brian just worked all evening to put a new tube in his flatted tire for his brand new mountain bike (no, he hasn't sold the other one...we're not discussing that right now).  Umm...really I think that's it now.  If you made it this far, pat yourself on the back for not falling asleep or developing ADHD.  I promise I'll write more often so I never do this to you again!
