Back Home

We are back in Indiana after a 13 hour drive and a day of unpacking/grocery shopping. I think both Everett and I have had a tiny cold which has made me tired even after a great night of sleep last night (10pm-4am!). We are trying to slowly introduce the concept of the crib and separate bedroom to Everett and the new baby monitor is a huge help. We attempted to put Ev to sleep in his crib last night, but after about 1.5 hours of crying, consoling, and repeating, we gave up. Yes, yes, I'm a wimp and I let my baby snuggle up in bed with me instead of enforcing a bedtime and letting him cry, but neither of us are ready for it yet. This also means that I am not ready to return to work....I go in to talk to my boss next week but, with the exception of last night, Everett is not sleeping well enough at night for me to even consider going back full-time. We need to contact some more daycares since we still do not have a secured slot and that really means I can't go back yet. I'm hoping we'll be able to work things out with me going back half days or something....we'll see I guess.
I'll try to get some more pictures soon. Right now, efforts must be focused on cleaning the apartment and organizing. As you might guess, housework didn't really happen in those first two weeks and then we left for three more. So now....eek!
Since I failed again at putting Ever down in his crib for a nap, I shall go retrieve the fussing babe. :)

Babies help you meet...

...your mom's cousin's wife without realizing it! Strangely enough, this happened and I didn't connect the dots until she was walking away. Oops! We were at the Black Cat having some breakfast (at 11:30....babies make you get up laaate...) and this nice woman came up to comment on Everett. We were chatting briefly and only after she mentioned what college she'd gone to, her children's ages, that she lived in Egypt, and that they moved back because of her son's asthma, did I realize who she was. But I still couldn't remember her name! So....I didn't say anything. I later called my mom and figured out her name and felt quite silly, but hey. Small world? Yes. Socially inept me? Also yes.
We got the babe weighed again on Wednesday and he's up to 8lbs, 11oz! Yay! We thought this might mean that he was big enough for size 1 diapers which we tried last night....and failed. He wet through three sleepers before we got our butts to Wal-Mart to pick up some more newborn sized diapers. Now it's time for a bath! We're heading back to IN tomorrow since Chicago is supposed to have a winter storm warning all day today until tomorrow morning. Then it will be interesting trying to adjust and get our fridge restocked....

Sneaky creature

I now totally believe that babies are devious in the cutest way possible. They think, "hmm....I was pretty rough on mom and dad last night. I'd better do something cute this morning so they forget all about my fussing..." So this morning, we got a bright-eyed, smiley baby. Guess I still can't return him to the baby store. :)
We're still loving vacation. Everett even had his first big babysitting session on Saturday night. He got to stay with the Grandparents H while mom and dad went down to Cable for a "Christmas" party (on January 3....). I was away from my little guy for 5.5 hours! He did very well though. Ate, pooped, sat in the swing, and cuddled...ahh, a baby's life...

We're heading back down to IN sometime on Fri or Sat and have a million and one appointments to attend to once there. Ev has his 2 month checkup scheduled, I have a dr. appt, I have a dentist appt, I think we're having another baby shower from girls at church....yikes!
Anyways! Here are some pictures of our little Ever.

Enjoying the new swing Grandma H bought. E's thoughts: "pooh, piglet, eeyore, pooh, piglet, eeyore...."
Smiley boy!!

And a video of our little smiley cooer:

Year in Review

I saw this on another blog and decided I had to steal the idea! Unfortunately, I have the wrong laptop, so these pictures may not be what I would pick if I had all the choices on the other computer...

Bath time!

Everett had a tub bath today...well, make that a sink bath. Since we didn't bring our baby tub up with us, we have been giving him sponge baths, but decided that he needed a real bath this time. Here are a couple of shots:
