Our Northland Home

Nope, sorry, no pictures. I just wanted to put up a quick note to let y'all know that we made it up here safely, unloaded and returned the truck, and even have most of the boxes unpacked and in their rightful places. We love our new house (as do the cats, who love to disappear during the day now) and the weather has been fantastic. We have two very large shady trees in our yards that keep the house nice and cool all day. We are currently freeloading some internet from a neighbor who doesn't protect their connection and some cable from the previous owners who haven't turned off their service yet. Brian's currently upstairs patching some nail holes in what will be Everett's room so we can paint it blue this week! Brian also starts work tomorrow, so it will be just me and the babe for the first time in a week. We've already had fun hanging out with family, picnicking, and of course, unpacking and organizing. We've made two trips to Ace, two trips to Wal-Mart, and a long walk to the post office, bike shop, bank, food co-op, and grocery store. I am very excited to learn that as of next month, there aren't really any benefits we miss out on by not being paid members of the co-op and I am utterly thrilled to learn that they sell Ev's yogurt, flours, grains, and oils by the pound, wonderful cereals, chips, and dairy products, and any natural baby stuff I could want! Yay! Now it's time to change Ev and head to the lake!

Last night in (West) Lafayette

I was totally planning on taking cute pictures of Ev amongst all the mess and boxes yesterday and today, but it just never happened. Sorry! We got the U-Haul at 3:30 yesterday, the first helper showed up at 4, and we eventually had 8 lovely Triathlon and lab friends come and they loaded that truck to the brim in 2 hours flat! Then we all went out to Nine Irish Brothers for dinner. Bri and I ran errands, packed more odds and ends and cleaned all day today and now we are just about done. Ev's been exhausted, Mabel's been freaked, and Olivia's been intrigued. Ev is now sleeping in his pack n' play in his old room, Brian's patching some holes in the walls, and I, well obviously you know what I'm doing! Now we just need to pack up our few days' clothes and last minute boxes, fold up the futon and pack n' play, load up the car, make it through our apartment inspection, and we'll be on our way! We're really hoping Mabel won't freak out too much when we try to get her in her carrier, but it's the most likely scenario. She's finally just calmed down and sat on the futon next to me. Now Bri and I are going to watch a tiny bit more of our lovely cable and go to bed! Next time you hear from me, we will be in the northwoods!

Packing

Not much going on here besides packing. I got a lot done yesterday so I am, of course, slacking off today. Busy watching all the Discovery Health and HGTV I can with our newfound cable. Here's Ev this morning (click to make bigger):

Sooo mad? happy? annoyed?

Our TiVo is acting up so we decided to just plug the cable right into the t.v. this evening. It's channel settings were wrong, so we did the auto channel search. It found about 30 channels. What. What? We signed up for the smallest package - 12.50 per month for the regular network channels. We are currently watching Mythbusters on Discovery channel. We move in five days. OMG.

6 Month Shots

Yesterday, I had to take Ever to get his 6 month shots all by myself. He didn't even notice the first shot (very thin needle), but the second - oh boy! He did NOT like that. And of course, they then had to go and stick him again in the other leg. Poor baby.... I only cried a little bit... He tried smiling at the nurses in between wails when they gave him a rattle. Well, I got him into his carseat and sat with him for a few minutes, situating his rattles, blanket, and nuk, and decided we'd go to Target since it would be a longer drive and he could fall asleep. He promptly fell asleep as we drove away and slept to Target, through me getting him out of his carseat and into the sling, through our Target wandering, back out to the car, out of the sling, opened his eyes briefly to say "Where the heck am I!?!" but fell back to sleep with his nuk as I buckled him in, all the way home and onto our bed while I did diaper laundry, and FINALLY woke up after 2.5 hours! Poor boy gets so sleepy after shots. He also slept through our anniversary dinner on the booth bench at the restaurant (very nice of him) and slept ALL NIGHT last night - from about 9-6:30! He's now napping again! and has been down for over 2 hours. I can also see the very tip of his first tooth coming through, so that probably doesn't help matters any.
Ev's loving the addition of yogurt (organic, whole milk, plain yogurt, of course) to his meals and gobbles them up like there's no tomorrow. I also bought him a new plastic bib yesterday because he likes sucking on the cloth ones and they are quickly being demolished.
Packing is a beast. We're doing a couple of boxes a night so far and have all the pictures off the wall and dressers mostly cleared off. We pick up the U-Haul in 8 days - eep!!! We finally got an approval letter from the bank this week and are getting homeowner's insurance today, and then we will hopefully be done with all the stupid tasks...now that interest rates have jumped, of course, but what can you do? Anyways....I better go see if Ev's still breathing in there and maybe he'll be kind enough to wake up soon so we can get to work already!
