Silly Monkey

I'm going to do a cloth diaper post soon in response to a de-lurker, but for now it's just this. Sitting here watching Teen Mom (worse than a soap opera...), working on my newest pair of longies while Brian is in the basement fixing his mountain bike fork and Ever monster is snoozing away. As I may have mentioned, Everett knows a few animals sounds (cow, cat, dog, and monkey) and likes to tell you what those animals "say" when asked. Today we had lunch at the Black Cat and Ev was saying "AH AH!" (which means, ooh ooh ah ah.....like a monkey.....duh). I thought he was just being silly and told him so. Then I noticed he was pointing and "ah ah"ing. I turned and looked at where he was pointing - there was a carved wooden monkey sitting on a shelf. He's smarter than I give him credit for! Just wait 14 years when he's finished college and starting both medical and law school. :)

The Professional Pictures

and one of my Old Navy model:

Everett can...

I've decided it's time for another "Everett can" post since he's had an explosion of cuteness lately. Haven't been taking many pictures lately, but will remedy that soon. Here we go!
Everett can:
-whisper "eyes" and point at his own, or other people's eyes
-whisper "eyes" when he gets to the page in his Duck & Goose 1, 2, 3 book that shows 8 eyes in the dark (my fault. I always read that page in a whisper because it was dark)
-find mama, daddy, his sippy, the cats, his tent, a washcloth, and various toys upon being asked where they are
-run up to his room, reeeeach into his crib, and steal a nuk, then run over to you quite proud of himself (with a nuk in his mouth)
-chase the cats and attempt to pick them up (they're still a little to fast for him)
-run like a maniac if you say "I'm gonna get you!"
-go up and down the stairs before you even notice he's not sitting next to you anymore
-push his popper all over the house
-find all the books in the house and throw them at you to read to him
-say "ball," "hi," "dada," "kitty," "eyes," and "UGH!"
-run to the bathroom with a washcloth, throw it in the tub, and sit on his potty at bathtime
-understand a whole lot of words including milk, breakfast, food, diaper, bye-bye, everyone's names, nuk, crib, room, snuggle, hair, toothbrush, gentle, NO, come here, let's go, upstairs, downstairs, tub, shoes, and "mama's bed"

Sensitive

It's official. Everett has inherited the Hammond sensitive gene. He's such a sweet, cuddly boy, but tonight, his sensitive side was a detriment to socialization. He was playing very well with his buddy R all evening, and they even played peek-a-boo together. This is one of the first times I've seen him socialize with someone his age (besides uncle Benj) other than giving them a strange look and walking away. R's house has lots of fun toys because his mom runs a daycare, so Everett loves exploring and playing with all the stuff. He discovered one toy in particular that was super fun. You push a button and balls spin in a circle (exhilarating, I know). Well, he was playing with it and then R tried to show him his favorite part of the toy - flipping it over (mind you, this is a big toy that you stand at and push buttons). Well, Everett saw this and was a bit distressed. I righted the toy, Ev was relieved, R flipped it, Ev was distressed. Repeat x4. About the fourth flip, Everett was near tears (he was tired too), so I picked him up and removed him from the playroom. It was time to go home. And now he is safe and sound in his crib, sleeping, and hopefully not dreaming of friends flipping over awesome toys.

The Mei Tai

Yesterday's project while Everett napped - (the cloth thing, not the boys)

I've been meaning to make this Mei Tai baby carrier for months now and finally got around to doing it. It was a conglomeration of three online patterns and I left out a hood because I didn't think it would be super necessary now that he's bigger and I'd probably want to make a new one for any future kids.
I really like how it turned out and it seems quite sturdy. I tried to make it "manly" enough that Brian wouldn't feel embarrassed to use it too...he doesn't!
