I knew that announcing we had picked a name but withholding the gem from y'all would promote some subversive tactics, but geesh people! :) My mom has now tried to trick me (twice!) into giving away any hints, darling sister-in-law has tried to convince me that since she's my "favorite person," I should tell her, and I've received other notices that people are just curious. Not that I mind, of course, because none of you are going to be told the name! mwa ha ha! I told Brian last night that he is not allowed to tell anyone what the name is either. He questioned this rule, pondering what might happen if he did happen to tell someone. My reply involved bodily harm, ridiculously inappropriate emotional responses, and that I would change the name and he would not find out what the boy will be called until he is born. So now you see, I'm serious here. No one will know the name!!!! :)
In other strange and should-be-private pregnancy news, I've now developed some kind of tender spot right under my sternum and ribs. It kind of hurts to touch and doesn't feel so great when a certain someone decides to stick a pointy body part up in the spot. I'm sure it's just another of my whiney complaints (ribs hurting, back sore, running into things with balloon-like body, stretching skin, etc.), but it is particularly grievous to me that playing too much guitar hero now causes physical discomfort somewhere other than my poor little fingers that can never manage to get from green to orange and back quickly enough...
Tomorrow we leave for Bloomington so Brian can leave me sitting in a smoky motel room all day while he enjoys the fresh air, riding the Hilly 100 with his grandpa and Ron and Katie. (yes, there were two "and"s in there, but it's because I say "Ron and Katie" as if it were one word.) Of course, now that riding a tandem for 100 miles would be true physical torture, I can admit that the ride was quite fun last year. And just for fun, here's a picture of us during a rest last year:
On Saturday morning, we had our breastfeeding class. I did learn some new things, especially about pumps and other equipment, and Brian learned a lot. I did not enjoy having to use a baby doll to pretend to breastfeed. Seriously people....a plastic doll..... ugh.
After the class, we decided to not try and drive back to the West side a half hour before the start of the Purdue-Penn State game - that traffic would have been icky - so we stayed in Lafayette. I had wanted to go to the mall, but then remembered that we were near Once Upon a Child. So we stopped there to check out the used goods, and...success! We found a perfectly new looking pack n play for $40 and a lamaze play mat for $12! Yay! Two more big items off my list! Now we need mostly little things like side-snap t-shirts, receiving blankets, more burp cloths, and medications plus some way to store his clothes. Still working on that last one. I'm considering a range of items from shelves with baskets to a hanging organizers, to a dresser.
I've been working on a little blanket recently which will include snowp's first initial when it is complete. I had gotten to the point of needing to include the initial, so I told Brian we needed to decide on his name. We talked very briefly and then he went off to watch a football game with Ron. When he came back, I had completed the initial, and he said, "Oh, so I guess his name is ______?" (That's right, I'm not telling you!!) So, our snowpea has a name (not officially of course, that's not until a birth certificate is made). I've been leaning toward the name for a long time but just couldn't kick out the poor other names that I liked. But I think this has really been his name for a long time now. We just have to discuss the middle name situation, but I am leaning toward one over the other already, so I pretty much have his full name in my mind.
I'm starting to think that we need to get this baby room put together soon as we are now at 32 WEEKS! Yikes! Weeks are seriously passing without my noticing and I can't believe we're getting so close already. Just over a month, and he could technically be done cooking. I think about that and then let him know that he is free to stay for quite a while longer if he'd like, as long as he doesn't lodge any body parts in my ribs for extended periods of time. There are a few times when I swear he must be standing up straight (and sideways in my belly) because all of a sudden, my belly will have sharp parts showing on either side. He's getting to be a strong little bugger and when he moves around, it's a strange mix between "ow!" and "weird!"
Well, that's all for now. The next doctor appointment is on Friday, Brian has fall break Sat-Tues, and all is still going well (besides me needing a nap often).
We are now down to only one more monthly appointment before we start going twice monthly! Craziness! Here's the most recent news from yesterday's visit.
-Snowpea: moving around like a crazy triathlete again, making is an adventure trying to pin him down to get his heartrate, which was 150. Dr. said he definitely looks like a boy and everything about him measured normal. His weight is the 60th percentile and everything else is just in the normal range. She also told us the amount of fluid was good but we didn't understand what unit of measurement she was using when she told us, so.... yeah.
-Me: My blood pressure is back down to my normal range (it never was high, just slightly higher than usual). Still healthy according to all tests and measurements.
-Other: snowpea's house is also measuring on track at 22 cm, which is apparently a decent measurement for 22 weeks (how convenient!).
-In slightly not normal news, we do have one thing to watch for. Boys might not want to read this, so go away if you don't! Apparently, the placenta is considered "low-lying," which means that it is within 3cm of the cervix. In fact, it measured 2.5cm away. This isn't a problem now, but it should move up and out of the way at some point. The dr. said 90% do, which doesn't comfort me that much, but hey. It's much better than something called placenta previa, in which the placenta covers the cervix, but still not the most desirable situation. As a happy point though, we get to have another ultrasound around 30 weeks to make sure the placenta is not in the way.
-Next appt.: the glucose test. nooooo! :) They're going to give me a super-sugared orangey drink which I have to chug and then sit and wait for an hour so they can steal my blood and make sure I am processing sugar and don't have gestational diabetes. I think they should just believe me that I don't and leave it at that.
-The next decisions:
Naming - we have narrowed our list down to 15 names! And nope, I'm not telling you what they are. You'll just have to wait. Maybe once we're down to ten or so, I'll let you sneak a peek!
The boy issue - the dr. is going to get together some literature for us to try and make the big decision about to circ. or not to circ.
Well, must get back to work now!
